This open-access book explores the concept of smart cities from multiple perspectives, including technology, urban planning, sustainable development, finance, privacy, and data protection. Focusing on six Asia-Pacific countries—Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam—it is divided into two main parts. The first provides a conceptual overview of smart cities and discusses key challenges such as privacy concerns and the role of public and private sectors in governance. The second part presents country-specific case studies illustrating how smart city initiatives are implemented in practice. The book offers valuable insights for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners interested in the intersection of law, governance, and technology in the Asian context.
