This open access book presents a comprehensive analysis of urban digital platforms such as Airbnb, Deliveroo, Amazon, and Google, conceptualizing them as techno-economic infrastructures that organize both social life and labor. Drawing on a three-year research project, it offers a general theory of platform capitalism, arguing that platforms are not just tools but generative engines reshaping economic and social systems. The book examines how platforms manage labor through algorithms, extract value via data, and influence urban and financial infrastructures. It also explores how the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated their transformation into dominant organizational forms, and considers the social, economic, and political implications of platformization.
